| hephep1's Full Review: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror |
When the Disney company decided to build a ride based on The Twilight Zone Television series, they went all of the way!
The ride is the story of a Hotel. In 1939, a freak storm took off an entire wing of the hotel, including the elevator. The hotel is said to be haunted, and has been abandoned ever since.
As you look down Sunset Boulevard, you can see the Hotel, which appears to be in ruins. The letters are falling off of the sign, and some of them are burned out. The sidewalks are cracked. The trees are dead. It is very different from the rest of Walt Disney World.
As you walk into the lobby, there is dust everywhere. A bellhop ushers you into the library. You will see a broadcast of the history of the hotel, and how it became haunted. The actor,Rod Serling from the television series is the host.
You are brought through the boiler room.If you have ever seen a Nightmare on Elm Street film, with Freddy Kreuger, this will freak you out.
This will be your last chance to chicken out. You are boarded into a 3 row service elevator. You are seated, and secured in by a lap bar.
You elevator rises up 13 floors. You are brought down a dark hallway. The hallway has flashes of scenes from the TV series. You know that you are in trouble at this point.
As you get to the end of the hallway, you see a bunch of cables and a brick wall. The wall opens up to reveal all of MGM Studios, you are way up in the air at this point. You car bounces a couple of times, and then stays still, so you think that you are safe. But suddenly you plummet 13 floors straight down. If that isn't enough, you bounce back up, and fall several more times!
To capture the moment, a photograph will be taken that you may purchase in the gift shop.
A little bit of trivia:
There is a Hidden Mickey in this attraction:
In the Video, the little girl is carrying a Stuffed Mickey Mouse toy.
Rod Serling:
It really is the real Rod Serling in the Video. There was actually no episode involving a haunted hotel in the series, so the Disney Imagineers blended several hours of actual video footage to come up with the finished product.
The Tower of Terror is the Tallest building at Walt Disney World, the lights that are blinking on the top, are to warn low flying airplanes
