Pros: Tells the history of a time our nation dares not forget Cons: This may shake your belief systems -- maybe you need that.
I remember.... No, I don't remember the Little Rock 9. I was only 3 years old when Melba Patillo and her friends walked through the doors of Central High school. I lived in a far different world than the one she found there - by virtue of the color of ...

Pros: Allows kids to gain a more personal understanding of this chapter of the civil rights movement Cons: I was not entirely comfortable with the writing style
I found the content of this book very upsetting. The book is the true story of the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957 as told by Melba Patillo Beals, one of the handful of children who integrated the school. The story...

Pros: An amazing and intriguing account of integration in Central High School in Little Rock. Cons: Some times became repeatative

Pros: An ugly but realistic message to America about hate. Cons: Some important details was not listed.
I purchased this book for my sons whom I wanted to make aware of some history and the strong advocacy some folks went through for an education and its now being passed down to my grandchildren. This book should always remind minorities and others how the...

Pros: Very powerful first hand account of the Integration of Central High. Cons: Written 40 years after the fact. Many details may be misrepresented or not included.
I was given this book to read for a History Class in College and was then asked to write a 5 page paper over it. It was hard to do because I couldn't limit myself to only five pages. Melba's story is one that touches the heart of every American....
