Pros: Inexpensive way to get HD-DVD playback Cons: None, after three months this is still a great machine.
Who wrote that last review, the CEO of Sony??!!? I got my HD-A20 for $306.00 including shipping, much better then the $500 - $1000 they wanted for any brand of Blu-Ray player. I even considered getting the LG player that does both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray but ...
Pros: I'd say the sleek design and display is the best thing. Cons: The worst is the freezing up. Can't shut off.
This is the worst dvd player. We were torn btwn getting either a blue ray or an hd dvd. Toshiba's HD A2 was one of the few hd dvd's that were available at the time. I bought the player in January 07. There was a promotion running to get 3 dvd's for free. Lured by the freebie, we chose Toshiba. However the movie selection was very limited and the offer expires. it ran fine the first few times then the model freezes, the remote stops working and either I have to depress the power button for 20 seconds or unplug the power cord to turn the dvd player off. When the remote does work and you turn the power off, it takes about 10 seconds for it to say "goodbye" meaning it's about to shut down. The frequency this happens is 1 out of 3 times. That's one time too many. I've heard other reviews that this happens too! The machine is just plain slow. Another feature that can be improved on is if the remote was lighted. Watching tv in bed is difficult when you can't see the buttons. However the picture quality is good
