Toshiba DLP- The Lexus of TV's

by crabbydaddy, Aug 12 '06
Pros: Awesome HDTV & Standard Cable Picture, Wide Variety of inputs, Memory Card inputs
Cons: nothing
It was about superball time last year and I thought I needed a little upgrade for my Samsung 27" CRT. I walked into my local electronics store and had an intention of getting a 50" Sony CRT projection TV with JVC surround sound for $1,399. It seemed ...

The BEST TV for the Money!

by reviewa, Dec 16 '05
Pros: Best of the best for the money, GREAT viewing experience.
Cons: Replacement lamps are a little pricey.
I bought my Toshiba 46HM95 about a month ago and have been loving it! This is the BEST TV for the money! In the 46HM95, Toshiba has utilized a technology developed by Texas Institutes back in the mid-80's called "Digital Light Projection", or DLP as ...

All you want in a Unit but w/ half the costs.

by robfactory, Jun 04 '06
Pros: Price, Quality, & technology
Cons: None
Like many others, I bought this DLP on Black Friday '05. I did my research and found DLP's to have a more sufficient lifetime and video gaming capability. So, when I saw this I was directly attracted to it. I took it home and gave it to my father as ...

Good TV. Replacing the lamp.

by drshell, May 04 '07
Pros: Good picture and sound.
Cons: Lamp blew early but was easily fixed.
We bought our Toshiba the day after Thanksgiving 2005 when Best Buy had them for $1500. It has an excellent HD picture and good sound through the on-board speakers. I think our 27" LCD has a slightly better picture but that may be only due to the smaller ...

GET THIS TV

by dallas32822, Jan 23 '06
Pros: HI-RES picture, DVD movies are awesome to watch, cable remote can operate TV features
Cons: TV Guide doesn't not work with my cable, IR-Blaster cables a nuisance thankfully not necessary
I was a little skeptical when this TV went on sale for 1600.00 on Black Friday '05, but waiting in line at Best Buy for 3 hours was well worth the wait. While waiting in line, i was told by an employee that they had already handed out tickets to ...

Not so great......
by imlonewolf,Oct 24 '08
Pros: Picture great IF you have HD signal.
Cons: Plan on spending $200 a year for bulbs.
After 4 years and 3 new bulbs.... It is an overpriced piece of junk. I would look at anything other that a Toshiba DLP.

Good Value
by billtroy,Feb 01 '06
Pros: Great picture quality , looks classy, excellent value
Cons: Somewhat noisy
Got it for my early Christmas present :-) at Best Buy on the crazy early morning after Thanksgiving sale for $1495.

Great picture quality, good viewing at side angles, HD is excellent, but Time Warner Cable offers only a few channels in HD at this time.

Fits neatly into a corner or straight wall. It looks classy on the stand that is designed for it.

Plenty of options for video and audio. Does not work as a computer monitor, although you can do a presentation on it from a computer as a secondary monitor.

It is somewhat noisy (higher pitched whine), in a quiet room could get annoying, but normal use it's fine.

Overall, hard to get more value for your $$ for around $1500.00

Expect changing lamps annually
by norskie4,Jun 06 '07
Pros: Nice screen
Cons: Expensive to run, expect a lamp a year at $200+
Love the picture quality, sound is not great, but OK.
Initially thought I had a great deal, but after having the color wheel die (fortunately covered under warranty) and the 2nd lamp die in less than 18 months of ownership I am not so sure the deal is so great. The lamp is $200+, and they only give a 6 month warranty on it. Too bad that is only about as long as is last. They recommend keeping a spare lamp ready for next time, so that means another few hundred...

PIECE OF CRAP!!!
by kelphil,Aug 29 '07
Pros: Not much to say
Cons: Toshiba will NOT stand by their products
We bought the t.v. December 05, 2005 The 1st night the fan went out, had to pack it up and bring it back to the store, We received a second t.v. We still have it but it sits in a corner collecting dust because it is useless, can't even watch it. In the past month we have had nothing but problems with it. First we had to purchase a new bulb at $260.00, then a day after that, the television started turning purple and green, so we had called American T.V. Service to come out to look at it, low and behold it is a DEFECTIVE Color Wheel ($743.00)we refused to have it fixed at our expense. We called Toshiba to see if there was anything that could be done, let them know that it was two people in the household, both full time workers not overly used. we sent them all of the paper work.
We just received a call that there is not ONE thing that they can or will do for us their warranty was up 3 months ago.... all of that said,
WE WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOSHIBA PRODUCT AGAIN!!

DO NOT BUY TOSHIBA
by saluki04,Jul 08 '07
Pros: NONE
Cons: TOSHIBA CUSTOMER SERVICE.
This television was the worst purchase i have ever made. First after a couple months of owning this television grey circles were appearing on the screen that nobody could tell me why. Then after owning the television for 13 months a part went out. It was the signal module and the picture would look like scrambled lines blurred together. I took it into a Toshiba repair center who told me the repair would be $750. I called Toshiba and there customer service was HORRIBLE. They would not answer any questions, would not return calls, and refused to do anything towards covering the product. The TV was one month out of warranty and after paying $1700 for this TV i am expected to pay another $750. Then after the TV sat in the repair shop for OVER 2 MONTHS i called Toshiba to see what was taking so long. The part was on back order and had not been sent out yet, and they could not tell me when it would be sent out. Finally i cancelled the part order and took the money i had for the repair and purchased a Sony TV.

Hearing Humming Noise
by vjogin,Jan 28 '06
Pros: Good picture quality
Cons: Irritating humming noise....
I purchased this TV last month, even though I like the picture quality, I'm hearing humming noise (this is unbearable when there is no background voice or music).I checked with Toshiba, and I was told that this is quite normal with DLP technology and the noise is because of the fans running all the time to cool off the light engine.
I hear this noise even after I turn off the TV for atleast 15 minutes.
I'm not sure everyone owing this TV is hearing this noise but it is very irritating to hear such noise while watching any movie or program.
I read all the reviews on this but no one complianed about this so not sure if it's only me experiencing this...
If you are, please post your review...

If you can get it for $1500 go for it!
by bhudson123,Dec 30 '05
Pros: Accepts Digital Camera Cards for Slide Show BEST DLP for the $
Cons: TV Guide on TV is redundant to the Cable Box
This TV has a great picture and the features and inputs are fantastic. I got mine for $1500 from BestBy. I wouldn't spend $2000 on it though so look for the deal. Yes you can see the Rainbow Effect everyone is talking about with DLP's but only when you move your eyes quickly. This is not a big deal in my opinion. If you are hooking this up to a Comcast HD-DVR box, make sure you program the box to "stretch" the picture. That way, all 480P pictures will automatically stretch without you having to do it with the TV's remote. The cards from your digital camera fit into the TV for a Slide Show. They even have a slot for XD cards! If you are in the market for a 46" DLP this is the one!

They don't stand behind their products!
by krystigirl,Feb 25 '08
Pros: Excellent picture
Cons: repairs every couple of years at a cost of 800.00 each time
Bought the t.v.in Nov.05 the day after Thanksgiving. Four months later the fan went out (colorwheel) It was fixed under warranty. Now Two years later and for months, again, colorwheel is out($760.00). Spoke to supervisor, they will not help or look into an ongoing problem with this set. I will never buy a Toshiba product again, even if consumer reports recommend it. They definitely do not stand behind their products.

SUPERIOR HDTV-TOSHIBA IS THE BEST
by amie928,Jan 17 '06
Pros: Extremely high quality picture and sound, takes up little space, only weighs 90 lbs.
Cons: NONE!!!!
I researched HDTV's for over a month, visited Best Buy twice trying to decide which is best for me and my budget. LCD technology is still too new and hasn't had enough time to have all the "bugs" worked out - not to mention the outrageous prices!! The black color on the LCD is very poor and when I compared an Aquos LCD next to this DLP rear projection picture - the DLP won hands down. I must admit that going from a 27" 24 year old Toshiba (yep, they last that long - if not longer) when I began watching the 46" screen it took me a few days to adjust to it-actually all it really took was finally not having to wear my glasses to see the screen! I HIGHLY recommend this TV - can't beat the picture, sound, and price! The HDTV is truly an outstanding picture! I'll never go to the movie theater again!! This technology is far superior to LCD/Plasma and it only weighs 90 lbs!!
