What a dud.
by ohonesporty,May 02 '08
Pros: Works very nice --- until it doesn't. Cons: Longevity and company response was pitiful.
My experience was very similar to the last review.
Soon after the labor guarantee expired, so did the recorder.
Same problem. Just stopped reading disks. A little checking revealed this is a common problem with this unit.
Since the last reviewer got the guarantee extended, I thought I'd try. I filled out the online question/complaint form at customer service. They replied literally within minutes. Bottom line: sorry for the "inconvenience", here's the "escalation address". Write them a snail mail.
To add insult to injury, the email was a "do not reply" that included a satisfaction survey that didn't link to anything.
If you're going to get this recorder, make sure you figure in the cost of the extended guarantee, you will surely need it.

A product that does not work long term
by quitman,Mar 12 '08
Pros: Ease of use, attractive case, records well Cons: Does not work consistently. Apparently a design flaw.
I bought this machine from Fry's back in September of 2007 for $89. Initially it worked well but after about 3 months, it would not recognize blank, new media. I tried a generic DVD-R from CompUSA, DVD-R from Memorex and DVD-RW from SONY. None worked so after numerous calls to Samsung, the Help Desk guy extended the original 90 day Labor Warranty to 180 days and I sent the machine in to New Jersey for repair. They lost my machine and finally sent a replacement, refurbished machine a little over a month later. It recorded one program using the DVD-RW and does not recognize any media now! Same problem, second verse! I have been a real cheerleader for Samsung in the past and until this fiasco, I was considering their Color laser printer, but no more! Life is too short. After my last go-around I asked if they have experienced higher than normal returns on this machine and they said "No". Of course, they are recorded (for training purposes)so I must have had miserable luck. Two machines-Two losers. Do not buy this machine!
