Pros:Network Card, DVD Player, and CD Burner. No integrated parts to my knowledge :)
Cons:Modem has sound card built on it... Video Card needs to be upgraded
Ok, I guess I'm the first to express my opinion I'm honored. Let me get right down to brass tax, if you want my professional opinion read on. The HP 8590C is an excellent purchase to almost all users. This is my favorite computer to talk about and sell.
I've worked part-time on the sales floor at Best Buy for two years, and this here is my all time favorite computer to talk about or sell. We still carry this unit at our store as well so this is semi-current.
This unit features a DVD-ROM drive and a 4X4X32 CD-Burner unit. Basically you can do several things with these two CD units. First you can watch DVD movies on your Computer, or use any DVD compatible software. DVD software is now extremely popular, for example Microsoft’s version of Encarta 2000 is one CD On DVD. The twist is that if you purchased the software as just CD-Rom version you would receive five CDs. Trust me switching CD's is no fun at all. (Please insert disc one! no wait Disc two).
Now my favorite of toy the 4x4x32 CD-burner unit that comes with this unit. I personally love making my own music creations on CD. So I use the Internet to download MP3's then I make my own personalized CD's to listen to in my car. The Adaptec software that comes with the CD burner isn't bad at all for doing this.
I wish everyone knew that the simple process of upgrading your ram would increase the performance of your machine drastically. So units that start out with more ram, which is inexpensive anyway, have a higher performance. The unit has a 600 PIII along with 128MB RAM, it blows my mind with such power.
A few warnings, first the modem has the sound card built onto the unit. This is a problem because if one thing goes you will have sorts of conflicts. Also if you try to upgrade you have to disable jumpers to prevent conflicts, and check out device manager under windows control panel. It can be a pain, but it’s not a major issue, just an annoyance.
If your networking, it has a 10/100 Base card preinstalled. This is a time saver, if you wish to have your old computer networked with the new one to transfer data.
Finally, a word to the wise, the system is preloaded with a large amount of worthless garbage. Take time to clean your desktop, bottom right tool panel, and the start up. This will increase performance because it frees up system resources.
