Pros: Reasonably priced; many features; small footprint; efficient & accurate; good support; fast scans.
Cons: Would liked to have had toll-free telephone support.
The Bottom Line: As far as I can tell from personal experience and much research into several reviews, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 is an excellent anti-virus application at a reasonable cost.

I have recently installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 on my desktop and on my laptop. Previous to this I was using Trend-Micro PC-Cillin. So far I am very satisfied with Kaspersky and it seems to be doing an excellent job on both machines.
The download was done from a disc that was bought online at a store and it cost $35.00. It was for up to 3 computers so I think that was a reasonable price for an excellent anti-virus application. Besides protecting against viruses, it also protects against spyware & phishing. I had Webroot's SpySweeper installed along with Trend Micro, but since Kaspersky also filters out spyware, I uninstalled SpySweeper. The installation of Kaspersky was easy and without any snags. The interface is a little confusing at first, but after some study it becomes much easier to understand & navigate. The entire program uses approx. 24 MB of your hard drive which is quite small compared to many other anti-virus softwares.
Installation places an icon on the desktop and one on your system tray. Opening the application presents a non-expandable screen which indicates the status of your computer (i.e. computer is protected, alerts, etc.).
The left-hand pane offers options to view status of protection for File Anti-Virus, Mail Anti-Virus, Web Anti-Virus, and ProActive Defense. Clicking on any of these links will display if the particular application is running, the security level and a link to configure it.
The next link down opens the scan screen where you can choose to scan Critical Areas, My Computer, Startup Objects or Rootkits. When a scan is completed in any of these areas, the display will indicate that the status is completed and the date. The next link down in the left pane brings you to the Update screen which indicates when the database was last published, the database records count and whether the database is up to date. You can also click on a link in this screen to update databases. There is also a link to rollback to previous database on this screen.
There are 3 more left pane links which include Reports and Data Files (including quarantine & backup), Activation, which includes a renew key link, installed key code, license date and number of days left on the subscription, and a Support link which shows the version number of the application, a Web Support link and a Personal Cabinet link which includes a customer number to visit technical support on their website to ask a question or take on-line courses.
On the very bottom of the opening screen there is also a Help link and a Settings link which is very detailed for the more advanced user. Overall I have found the interface very detailed and elaborate and once I became accustomed to using it I found it to be easy to navigate.
Right clicking the taskbar icon allows you to scan the computer, virus scan the computer, update, modify settings, open the application, pause protection or exit (shut down the application). I use the taskbar icon to update new definition files about twice a day because I have automatic updates turned off. I prefer to update manually rather than automatically. Kaspersky updates about every hour and I would rather not have the update process running while I am working in other programs.
I have used several anti-virus applications and security suites in the past and I find that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 outshines them all. It scans extremely fast, has many, many features, an (eventually) easy to understand interface, consumes little resources and is reasonably priced for up to 3 machines. Also available is Kaspersky Internet Security Suite which includes some other features such as parental blocking, ant-spam. etc. but I did not need these so I just purchased Anti-Virus 7. There is online support and a non toll-free telephone number for tech support. I used them once and they were very helpful.
Just a further note.......I would stick with Version 7 for now, because the latest version (2008) seems to be getting bad reviews and many people are stating that Version 7 is far better than Version 2008.
