Barker Creek™ and Lasting Lessons™ Educational Products Publishing Company Incorporated Friends Border Strips are offered as 35 feet, 12 strips in all of friendly, smiling faces.

I like this collection of handsome faces.  A rainbow border strip at top and bottom of each piece is seen in shades of yellow, green, blue purple and magenta.

Friends Faces are set against the pretty blue background sprinkled with yellow stars.

First is seen a little smiling girl, hair done up in little, poofy puppy ears and straight brown bangs, next is a grinning little boy his brown hair is combed from a part.  The next little girl has her black hair done up in poofy puppy tails.  Next we see a little boy sporting a jaunty bow tie, his blond hair is also combed from a part.  A happy little girl, short brown hair and a pretty blue bow is next followed by a little boy, whose hair we cannot see.  His hair is covered by a ball cap turned to the side, slanted over his ear.  A happy blond with straight, shoulder length hair is next, and is followed by a lad with brown, middle parted hair and eye glasses.  The little black hair girl who follows wears another of those friendly, welcoming smiles while the toothy little boy with the upturned, old time butch hair do shows that he has not yet lost a tooth.  He is followed by a curly, brown haired little girl, a black hair little boy and a lass with brown pigtails.

All in all this is a fun border piece with 13 smiling children, all wearing welcoming smiles and all offering welcome to the classroom. 

Crafted of first-rate, choice, full-bodied sturdy card stock papers using raw materials carefully chosen to meet industry and governmental standards regarding manufacture of materials for use in situations where small children can be expected to be present.  These items are  robust items having sturdiness and are printed using child pleasing, risk-free inks set down in a myriad of pretty colors.

Osage County First Grade takes part in a number of activities all designed to help reinforce math instruction particularly regarding number sense.  We count the faces on the strips, we cover some and decide how many are left.  We count again.  We put poker chips over some of the faces and see how many are left.  When understanding that we have 13 on the strip, and fiddle with that number, the number remains 13 unless we add some faces or take scissors and cut some away is strong then we begin to write the number sentences we are creating.  ie cover the faces of boys and then count the girls  (7) and then count the boys (6), number sentence is 7 + 6 and 6 + 7, and both are still 13, etc.

Operations concepts are more easily and quickly learned IF Little Learners have a strong number sense that 7 is 7 no matter how many ways we tweak the components.
