Overhead projectors are out of style, you say?  We use this Highland Transparency Clear Film for Laser Printers (# 701) for more than the overhead projector.


Description

Inside each box are 50 transparency sheets, each sized at 8 1/2" x 11”.  These sheets are designed for using in a laser printer.  Instructions state to use them like regular paper.  TheHighlandproduct number is 701.


Our Experiences

This is a pretty basic product.  If you are familiar with overhead machines, transparencies are the sheets that go on the glass to be projected onto a wall or screen for audience viewing.  There are special pens for writing on transparencies, so that the ink can be wiped off and the transparencies reused.  TheseHighlandtransparencies are designed for permanent ink placement by using a computer and laser printer.

While most of our presentations these days are done via Powerpoint and a laptop computer, there are still a few people who need these transparencies for an overhead machine.  The transparency film is also used to create small customized templates by several of us.  These clear templates are then overlaid onto equipment.  I was thinking these sheets would make good pattern material for some of my craft projects, too.

These sheets look as if they have a yellow cast when they are stacked in the box.  However, when a single sheet is pulled free, it is clear.  Place a transparency sheet against a white piece of paper, and the paper still retains its color (it is easy seeing through the plastic sheet to view or read what is behind it).  The sheets are the same size as a piece of copy paper.

The manufacturer recommends two ways to use these sheets.  1) They can go in the regular paper tray, but it is suggested that the tray hold five sheets of regular printing paper before loading in the transparency sheets. 2) The transparency sheets can be fed into the printer using the paper bypass tray.  It is also suggested that one check their printer manual to confirm the printer can process transparency film.

We have no problem using these transparencies in our laser printers.  Utilizing software programs, we design what we need printed on each sheet.  We have used both methods for printing the transparencies, and each has worked well.  We have never had a problem using theseHighlandtransparencies.  First, we fan the clear film sheets to reduce chance of static cling.  The sheets feed through the printer and have never melted or jammed.  The ink adheres well to the sheets and is easy to read.

Note:  If you don’t use this particular “laser film transparency,” then make sure the transparencies you are using are meant for laser printing.  We had a box of regular transparencies (meant for writing on with special markers), and someone mistakenly used them in the printer.  The films melted during the printing process.  What a mess!  Using transparencies meant for laser printing solves this problem.

Summary

This Highland Transparency Film works well for us.  It is problem-free when moving through the printer.  Great results!
