Trinity gave me a great education at a great price. I met wonderful people (professors, staff, and students) and had a really great four years. I would love to send my kids to Trinity.
I enjoyed my years at Trinity -- I met the man who is currently my husband while a senior there (he was a junior), so there must be some social life, despite the fact that we all liked to complain that there wasn't. It is true that socially, there aren't as many options at Trinity as there are at large schools, but I made good friends who will be my friends for life -- and I think that the tradeoff of a large and extra diverse campus is that the academic life isn't nearly as good or personal.
While the on-campus housing requirement is something that some people resent, it definitely makes for a close and caring community. Having been to a graduate school where this was often lacking for the undergrads, I could tell the difference. Now, teaching at an institution where the campus community is much less cohesive, I really notice the difference. I had a built-in support network at Trinity -- in large part because I lived on campus with my friends. Herndon wasn't the most luxurious place I ever lived, but it was fun and home.
Educationally, Trinity was a WONDERFUL experience. I had fantastic professors who cared deeply about their fields and their students. They took time with me, guided me in my research and my interests, and taught me HOW to learn. My education there prepared me for graduate school and put me in a position to compete for a great fellowship package when I did go.
I have to admit that it was hard to adjust to Trinity. Initially, I chose it because I got a great scholarship package. Not being from Texas, that first year was hard -- like moving to a foreign culture. (I'm from the Northwest.) But once I got used to it, I loved it -- you should have seen the tears I shed when I left!!
