| samarayum's Full Review: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror |
Welcome the Haunted Hollywood Hotel. As the back-story goes one night, a group of visitors took the service elevator during quite the storm outside. And crash the elevator is no more and this once pristine and glamorous hotel has succumb to ghosts and strange happenings
You are about to enter the TWILIGHT ZONE (cue the theme song).
As with any Disney ride, this ride has awesome theming and a great back-story, so you are not just riding a ride you are having an experience congruent with the story. Looming at MGM Studios, the Tower of Terror is something that you cannot miss, not only in sight but the ride itself. Tower of Terror is located in the Hollywood and Sunset Blvd areas of the park, along side the Rock n Roller Coaster.
While weaving through the disheveled courtyard in the queue you get the sense that this places upkeep has gone by the wayside. You finally are to the entrance way to the hotel where you enter what was once a lovely lobby with beautiful furniture and all the like for the Hollywood elite. However, it is now covered in cobwebs and dust. And your journey has just begun as you are sent to the library to get the scoop. IF this is as far as you want to go, you are more then welcome to chicken out and leave the hotel.
In the library, Rod Serling comes on screen and explains what happened that fateful night and that it wasnt just any service elevator. Now the doors open and you are led to what appears to be the maintenance area of the hotel and depending on the day and crowds you can be sent to any of the numerous elevators.
You are sent to numbered areas which will then be your seats on the elevator. DING, your ride has arrived, you go to your corresponding seat and the journey begins! With the most recent upgrade to Towers system there is now a random drop sequence. Whats that mean? You will never have the same ride twice! From the visuals to the actually elevator ride is all randomly chosen by the computer. It drops you when it wants and whenever it wants for how many times it wants. Leaving this ride to be new each and every time you ride because you never know when and what to expect. You may plummet all the way down you may go a little bit down at a time and when you least expect it get pelted up and all the way down again!
Make sure you smile pretty for the camera, as your photo will be available for purchase at the end of the ride! It is truly an experience for the thrill seeker at Disney World. The ride itself is definitely for those with a strong stomach and not a fear of heights, as at one point the windows open up and you can see down to the park, granted briefly, but still its high up! There is a forty-inch height requirement.
Also, my advice is get to the park early and go directly to this ride as your first. The wait is not as long and if you enjoy it immediately after you ride obtain a fast pass to use later for a re ride. This ride tends to build up a line from the beginning of the day onward. Luckily there is fast pass capability so I would utilize it if you cannot get to the park first thing in the morning.
