stevego's Full Review: Maytag MAH2400A Front Load Washer
Our machine, purchased from the Home Depot, went into service early Feb of 2005. In Jan or 2006 the machine would not drain so we called Maytag service. Unfortunately since we had purchased the machine in Dec of 2004 we had to pay for the visit. Nothing was found but the machine magically started to work. 1-2 loads later the problem reoccurred and we once again called for service. This time a nickel was found in the pump, he had no idea how he missed it the first time but said it was common for that machine to suck up change. We then had to spend considerable time on the phone so that we would not be charged for the follow-up visit.
End of May 2006. Once again the machine won't drain. We call service and he can't figure anything out but it seems to work after he takes it apart and puts it back together. We have to pay for the service visit. Very next load same problem. Service comes back and the control board goes out and they will need to replace. New board is installed (luckily parts were still under warranty) he leaves. Next wash same problem. Next visit they want to replace the pump. Pump is installed but he punctures the house. Hose is replaced but machine has same problem. They test the power, they call the factory technical support, they replace more parts. The only difference is that now after each visit they tell us to call their technical support and try to get the machine replaced because they have no idea.
Mid August 2006. Going on month 3 they decide to send a factory tech who wants $137 for the visit. After 45 minutes on the phone they agree that maybe we don't need to pay since the machine hasn't worked after any of their prior 6-7 visits. Another pump is replaced and the machine again fails on the first load. Schedule yet another visit with promises to replace the same parts that have been previously replaced.
Sept 8 - Factory tech leaves and machine fails during first load. Not having the stomach to enter into month 4 of this battle I decide to purchase a new non-Maytag machine. I wish someone had told me a similar story prior to losing a 1/2 day of work every other week for 3 months, not to mention the time spent at the laundry mat. Maybe this machine is their only lemon, but the inept service was too much. Service is not shoulder shrugs and suggestions that we try to convince their own technical service into replacing the machine since all they could do was reorder the same parts and come back every 10 days. Hours spent on the phone, finally getting to the top of corp support (or at least told that) only to have them be completely unresponsive and tell me that I can just call them if the next visit doesn't fix it. The response to what happens if it doesn't work this time, "I don't know". I'm venting so hopefully you make a better buying decision than I did and you won't be in the same situation in a year.
