First I ordered a complete barebones system including case, power supply, motherboard, chipset, cpu, and cpu fan. I received the cpu and cpu fan right away, but the cpu fan was in an opened box and the box was not even a fan box. It was a Pentium 4 box and it was just crudely taped shut. I can only assume that the fan was a return or something. It seemed ok and unfortunately I needed to build the pc right away, so I had no choice but to keep it.
The case, power supply, and motherboard did not show shipped for days, but instead only showed "To: Drop Ship". Clearly this item was to be drop shipped from a distributer or manufacturer. However I called Tiger customer service to see if I could get an ETA. They said they would send a request to the manufacturer and that I should call back the following morning. The person I spoke to in the morning said to call back midday. That person then told me to call after 7 pm. Finally that person said that if the item didn't ship yet (in which case he said I would've gotten a tracking email), it's probably backordered and I should expect 1-2 weeks on it.
I checked around and couldn't find a case/powersupply I liked as much, and ordering from anywhere else from that point would've taken a week to get anyway, so I stuck with it. It turned out after receiving the item, that it actually shipped the day after I ordered it...it's just that Tiger didn't get the info.
This is a problem because they had me call them 4 times (I only called when they said I should call back) and still couldn't give me any helpful info. It turns out they were just wasting my time. Secondly, they gave me bad info on the item being backordered.
Finally, when I opened the case, I found that the power supply was jammed in and secured with the screws in such a way that it bent the sheetmetal in the back of the case. Secondly the motherboard was fastened down with one of the standoffs missing (those who assemble computers know what I mean by the standoff) and another crossthreaded and only bareley started so it was keeping the motherboard from sitting flat!
Obviously I had to remove the motherboard and correct both of these. I removed and reinstalled the power supply, but couldn't fix the cosmetic problem that resulted to the case, but luckily that is at the rear of the case.
I can't blame all the assembly issues with the case on Tiger other than their response to it (which was that I could only return it and reorder it again). Other places that I deal with would've given a discount on the shipping charges or something.
I hope that Tiger learns from my feedback and begins having their suppliers of barebones systems, ship the components unassembled like most other sellers do. In the end the assembled system sent to me not only took me longer to fix than assembling it in the first place, but came out sloppy. Now I have to give this wreck to the person it is being built for.
I would recommend two things to people reading this who are building a pc. First, don't order a barebones system from Tiger...instead use a seller like NewEgg. Secondly, if you do order any items in general from Tiger, be sure you are not in a hurry for them.
Tiger does NOT list on their items if the item is "Drop Shipped", and as per Tiger's customer service, items that are "drop shipped" they have no control over how long it takes to ship out. Also as I found out in this case, they have no ability to call their supplier to find out the status, they can only email them and per their own statement, this could take 1-5 days just to get a response.
