oldsnwbrdr's Full Review: LG WM0642H Front Load Washer
I bought this machine at Best Buy a month ago. I've washed about 15 loads with it.
I did not consult with epinions before buying a front loader. It's probably a good thing, I would have been scared off. I live in a three-story townhome, and my laundry room is located on the top floor. My bathroom is also located on the top floor, and it does take awhile for the water to warm up in the shower.
Nevertheless, I have not had any of the problems described by other reviewers. When I wash my whites, I can tell that the water is hot by touching the glass on the door. Even if the water does not become blistering hot, I don't care because the whites come out of the washer so clean. In addition, I have not had any vibration problems (my floors are not, to my knowledge, reinforced). While the washer certainly vibrates during the spin cycle more than my previous top loader, it is not in any way bothersome or damaging to my home. In fact, I have to be standing very close to the washer to even notice.
The machine seems to be very well constructed. It was the least expensive of the high-quality front loaders that Best Buy carries. The buttons have a very high-quality feel to them also, and each change is accompanied by an expensive-sounding chime.
This washer uses shockingly little water. In fact, I thought at first that the machine was broken, and was not adequately filling the drum. It is true that sometimes you see no water sitting in the drum, although the clothes are fully drenched. I've never even seen any suds until I washed a queen-size down comforter this morning, and I probably put too much soap in. The machine had no trouble getting rid of the suds during the rinse cycle, however.
The washer is very easy to use. I have used only the normal, delicate, and handwash cycles, and see no need to make any other adjustments. The only modification I have ever made was to adjust the water temperature to hot for my whites.
My only complaint, and it is a very mild one, is that the normal cycle runs 54 minutes. This is not an issue for me, because I only do laundry when I have large loads and I make time to do them.
I'm very happy with the washer. Only time will tell if LG holds up as well as the better-known brands.
