cshrwd's Full Review: Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac Upright Vacuum
After moving into a new home with light beige Berber carpet, I knew that something had to happen. The carpets were soiled in all of the major walk-ways, but the carpet itself was in fine condition. I tossed up a couple of ideas... pay over $100 to get a few rooms cleaned, or buy a shampooer. I opted for getting the latter that way I would always have something around to clean up the accidental spills or pet mishaps.
I was very worried about what kind of machine I could get for the amount of money that I was willing/able to spend. A couple of months back I borrowed my moms Oreck cleaner only to find that the machine was only able to pull a fraction of the water it was dumping into it. Not a good thing. It didn't suck any dirt up and left my carpets a soaking mess and vulnerable to mildew.
Now, I tell you all of that so that you can appreciate how happy I am when I found this shampooer. It did everything I was looking for and continues to deliver the same great results, even after many uses. The independently rotating brushes on the underside really helped to scrub out all of the mess and was an option that wasn't offered by other models in its same price range. Do expect to go over heavily soiled areas a few times to get a good result. Overall, I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who needs a reasonably priced item and great results!
While it may sound silly, I actually took pictures to show my family. I was that surprised! I'd be happy to send a few your way. Just e-mail me at: cshrwd@msn.com
Good luck! Cathy
UPDATE:
As with any deep stain, I've learned that it is helpful to pretreat and use professional quality cleaning liquid (both available at Home Depot). I do go over these problem areas about once a month, as old liquid stains can get into the padding and create a 'rise to the top' effect. This is true even with professionally cleaned carpets.
Also, you'll discover that after some time dirt and hair will begin to get clogged in the front part of the water intake area. I contacted Hoover about this and they were kind enough to send out a cleaning brush.
