Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: comfortable, good ride, good gas mileage
Cons: expensive maintenance, problems
The Bottom Line: This car looks nice and drives nice, until it has a problem, which have been happening atleast once a year since we bought it.

In the beginning of 2003 my husband wanted to replace his old VW Quantum. He'd had some VW Bugs previously and wanted to get another Volkswagen, so we headed to our local dealer and ended up buying a 2002 Jetta. We were lucky, the car we bought was a ...

Pros: Unique styling, quality interior materials, acceleration with 1.8T or VR6, German feel
Cons: Cramped rear seat, chassis skittish at the limit, poor reliability
The Bottom Line: If you are attracted to the Jetta’s styling, interior ambiance, and German character, and do not require an adult-sized rear seat or reliability, then this is the car for you.

My sister finally bought a Jetta, and I’m finally reviewing the car. She didn’t start out looking at the Jetta. She started out really wanting a VW Passat. (Click on the blue hyperlinks to read my reviews ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Super fuel economy (40+mpg), good looks, great interior
Cons: High price, diesel fuel inconveniences
The Bottom Line: The Jetta TDi offers an extremely robust, well-rounded package, and the new 4-year bumper-to-bumper warranty is an added bonus.

Fuel Economy. Two words can sum up the direction that all automakers are heading these days. While sales of gas-hungry SUV's begin to slip, new technologies are hitting the market promising greater fuel economy, which means lower emissions. Hybrid ...

Volkswagen: NEVER AGAIN

Aug 27 '05 - Updated Aug 30 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Stylish, TDI engine, mechanical reliability, handling
Cons: Road noise, price tag, after-sale service.
The Bottom Line: You might want to consider other manufacturers if you are looking more for durability and reliability. The Jetta is definitely not up to its price tag

Updated: 17-09-2005 I purchased my Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2002 in February of 2005, and without any doubt I believe that it has been the worst purchase of my life. There are many reasons why I wished to abandon this vehicle, some much more important ...

Jump on the Jetta Bandwagon

by rsantos
Jan 13 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Zippy, loaded with features, sporty but with lots of room for cargo
Cons: More expensive than other wagons, slight lag in lower gears, turbo repair costs may shock
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended for anyone looking for a wagon. It costs more than others in its class, but you get more features, plus a drive that's unquestionably German.

If you don't want to spend money on a new car, then don't test drive the new Jetta Wagon. Especially not the 1.8-liter turbo engine. I can assure you that you won't walk out of the dealership without it. Although it costs a bit more than other wagons in...

The Jetta is the sporty choice for wagons.

by mickdog
Jan 28 '02 - Updated Feb 12 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty, with a lot of pep. Decent cubic space for hauling stuff around.
Cons: A couple of minor ergonomic details; Back seat is small for large adults.
The Bottom Line: The Jetta Wagon does everything you want in a small/mid-size wagon and more. It's clean look, sporty nature and decent cubic space will appeal to everyone in the family.

After an exhaustive search, the Jetta Wagon was the choice for me. I needed a mid-size wagon with enough cubic space to haul furniture, feel comfortable when driving long distances, and have a little bit of pep.

The main comparison was with...

Mar 02 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice Acceleration (VR6), Lots of Gadgets!, Comfortable Interior
Cons: Price, Gas Mileage
The Bottom Line: The Jetta fun-to-drive small car with a ride and features that are reminiscent of much more expensive cars.

I had my eye on a Jetta GLX for 6 months before I bought one. During that time I met all of the dealers in my area, and test drove just about every model.

In the end it was a decision between the super-efficient TDI, or the super-loaded...

2002 Jetta GLS 1.8t

Jul 26 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quick acceleration (1.8t), Euro style, 200 watt stereo, improved warranty, 17 inch alloys
Cons: Premium gas, ridiculous back seat space, flimsy cupholders
The Bottom Line: The 1.8t is fun to drive and you look cute driving it.

I have only had this car for a little over a month, however so far I am pleased with both the way it looks as well as it's performance. When test driving the different Jetta models, I remember being pretty disappointed at how sluggish the base engines...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty, comfortable, fun
Cons: Haven't found one yet!
The Bottom Line: I absolutely love my car. When this VW finally does have to be replaced, it will be with another VW.

I absolutely love my car. My husband and I bought it certified used, and purchased the extended warranty. We were expecting our first child and wanted a safe car for her. I had previously owned a New Beetle, and loved the support I got from VW. I ...

'02 TDI best yet

by Oguard
Dec 05 '02 - Updated Dec 06 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Improved switch gear. Higher torque
Cons: Fuzz magnet upholstery.
The Bottom Line: Drive at least 50,000 km (31,000 miles) per year? The added cost of the diesel is offset by the increased fuel efficiency and lower fuel costs.

This is my third Jetta TDI in the last 5 years. I put an average of 80,500 km (50,000 miles) per year and find a ready resale market for them.

The latest version has a better feel to the controls; especially the linkage of the manual...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Warranty - iffy Stereo (when it works) Handles quite well - nice pickup
Cons: Rattling Repairs Denial of warranty repairs
The Bottom Line: Wouldn't buy or lease a Jetta again. Just too many problems for me to want to try it again.

After many long, wonderful years with my 1991 Honda Accord EX, I had to finally break down and get a new car. The transmission finally went kaput. I started out looking at Honda's, Toyota's, Mitsubishi's and the like. I just didn't find anything ...

Pros: MPGs, Comfort, Design, Quality, Looks, Fact that it was free(ish), Heated seats, Radio, Leather, Peppyness.
Cons: Gas station woes, The fact that there are 7 of them at my high school.
The Bottom Line: Buy it, Lease It, Steal It

My 2002 was very generously given to me by my grandparents in early November of '05 and so far, it's proved itself as the best kept secret in fuel efficient cars. I average about 33 MPG's in crowded city driving with the A/C on. Inside the interior is ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Powerful engine, excellent handling, great appearance, many options, 6-speed tranny
Cons: Reliability problems, badly designed cup holders, requires expensive premium grade gas
The Bottom Line: If you like the sporty look with lots of power and excellent handling, this car is for you. Beware reliability headaches.

While most Jetta 2002 models can be found almost everywhere you look on the road, the Jetta GLI makes notably fewer appearances on the road due to its relatively limited production. This car is intended for VW lovers and auto enthusiasts. It features a ...

Pros: Styling, Amenities
Cons: Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability,
The Bottom Line: For me - it's "STAY AWAY". I know that based on my service experience and the Reliability of this car - I won't be looking at VW again.

After buying my first new car ever (1995 Jetta GL) I was hard core sold on VW's products. I even sold VW's for a short time at a dealer in Kentucky. When it was time to replace my wifes aging jalopy with something newer, there was no question in my ...

Jan 25 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast (1.8T), Great factory sound system (Monsoon), Expensive Car Feel (Feels like a BMW!)
Cons: Wheel crank seat recliner, bad cup holder position, velour seats are lint magnets.
The Bottom Line: Get it. You won't be disappointed if you like a high performance car for the price of an economy car.

Was shocked when I first test drove this car. The turbo really kicks in and you will never ever have any problems coming up to speed on the freeway onramps or passing cars on rural highways. I'm still too scared to see how fast it will go. Haven't even...
