Call to action - we needed this

by geezer-geek, Jan 05 '08
Pros: Comprehensive, compassionate, wake up call
Cons: Did not address usual criticisms of foreign health care programs
At a time when many Americans use self-interest as a measure of whether they'll get involved in helping out "the tribe," Michale Moore stands on the hill and sounds the horn for common sense and revolution of compassionate, smart spending for US health ...

Powerful & Informative; Every American MUST SEE

by lawram, Jun 29 '07
Pros: Enlightening, riveting, well researched, Important documentary Made for the USA
Cons: None
Okay, Moore is a lighting rod, but this film is non-partisan and unifying. Michael Moore rises above our differences with SICKO, working to bring us together to focus on an imperative issue -- a serious flaw in the way we live and think and spend. He ...

The Good Parts are the Hardest to Watch

by pgrundy, Dec 18 '07
Pros: Factual, informative, forceful
Cons: Will leave you angry and upset about US health care
I thought I knew what to expect when I went to see Sicko. I've seen all of Moore's movies, so I am familiar with his penchant for melodrama. Sometimes it works, sometimes it undermines his point. For example, the tone of Roger & Me was dead on, but I ...

by dianelamiller, Apr 21 '08
Pros: new
Cons: same
Sicko So you probably have heard how "documentarian" Michael Moore took a group of 9-11 survivors to Cuba for his new "documentary" (entitled Sicko) in a feeble attempt to show that socialism and communism makes for a better health care system or ...

Good but feels slightly manufactured

by bob384, Dec 14 '07
Pros: Informative Pro-France!
Cons: I don't know that Michael Moore can pull off sincerity anymore.
Overall, I have to say this was an enjoyable documentary. It has enough accurate information and is so relevant to current American politics that most people should see it. Moreover,I appreciated the glimpses into other country's health systems. I ...

You don't have to love him, but the movie's good.

by miss_ali1984, Jun 04 '08
Pros: A very good documentary with great points and interesting encounters.
Cons: Sometimes a bit pompous and sly.
The interesting thing about Michael Moore is that he has a great way of making a point, regardless of how many people hate his guts. The real heroes of the Michael Moore movies are really the editors who piece all of these things together. Fortunately ...

emotional roller coaster of a movie

by garibaldi99, Jul 18 '07
Pros: You can laugh and know you are not alone in the US health care maze.
Cons: Michael Moore's lost weight! I and I have gained 15 pounds!
I have had a family member enter at his own risk into the patchwork health care system here in the US, and due to my devoting 20 hours a week to calling insurance companies, begging doctors, keeping my own records of his ailments and medication, he ...

Glad I Have Good Health
by lilgopeder,Dec 11 '07
Pros: Everything, too much to list.
Cons: Long... don't watch it with someone who doesn't care about health care.
Watching Sicko will make you feel sorry for those who don't have health care and even more sorry for those that do. Michael Moore has done an excellent job at portraying the problems in our privatized health care system. This is a great movie for any American. Better yet, this is a great movie for anyone that has health insurance whether it be from the government or from a private company. It is truely a shame that health care in America is not as adequate as other second and third world countries.

Witty, right idea, but complete propaganda
by muddaconch,Jul 18 '07
Pros: A+ on his high school research paper documentary, witty sarcasm.
Cons: Michael Moore.
Michael Moore has a great point in that the US should have free health care, and insurance companies are more harmful than helpful, but the whole documentary is circumstantial. He ties every clip into the next to have it make complete sense; however, he makes a 3rd world country like Cuba look like it has better health care than the US (it might be free, but it's not better). He also makes it seem like the French have free health care and pay no taxes. They are showered with taxes.

I mean it's not surprising really. It's the same old Michael Moore. He's got a great point to make, but he's such a raging liberal that you can't take him seriously.

Moore's best film
by bgreiner8,Jul 18 '07
Pros: Moore kept himself out of most of the film, much more honest film-making tactics
Cons: No interviews with the top level health care professionals
I think many people are shying away from this film because they either saw or heard about Michael Moore's film tactics of the past. This film focused on the victims rather than only pointing fingers, which made for a much more honest documentary.

The film left me feeling angry, not just because our health system sucks but because our political system does too, it's so corrupt and essentially unchangeable.

A WAKE UP CALL FOR AMERICA
by madmanc,Oct 27 '07
Pros: Powerful and informative
Cons: sentimental - Cuba episode too contrived
This film opened in England yesterday - having recently seen Bowling for Columbine for the first time I was keen to see Moore's latest film. As a Brit I'm used to hearing the newspapers and politicians use our NHS as a political tool. This film made me thank God I have free and immediate access to healthcare and am not at the whim of some insurance company underwriter on whether I get treatment. An intelligent and sympathetic film that made me proud to be a European. I'm sure the film's attraction outside the U.S. will be the opportunity to see the real America without the Hollywood sheen. Within the States it should serve as a wake up call. The most powerful scene in the film was where Moore was interviewing Americans living in Paris - one of them quite rightly observed in France the government is afraid of the people - in the U.S. the people are afraid of the government. Try to impose an American style health system in Europe and there would be riots in the streets. Riot in the street in America and your likely to end up with a bullet in your head.

See this movie today . . .
by mollymagdalain,Jul 06 '07
Pros: informative, ironic, inspiring
Cons: depressing, enraging
In any advanced, progressive society it seems that certain fundamental things should be taken care of. One of them is definitely basic health care and Michael Moore shows - through the lives of random people - that this is just not happening here in the U.S. When one compares that fact to the fact that health care and insurance companies are making billions of dollars of profit each year - it seems that maybe the system is a little screwed up. It will make you sad and it will make you mad . . . go see it today!

An eye opening movie to say the least
by erkcuf,Jul 06 '07
Pros: Excellent presentation of the facts
Cons: nothing
Michael Moore does a superb job of presenting the American Health care system and how screwed up it is as compared to other industrialized nations. This movie will make you angry and envious. If you're angry at our nation's Health care system, you must watch this movie. If you think nothing is wrong, guess again, you need to see this movie!

Sicko is a "must watch" for anyone concerned about health care.
by dystantme,Jan 02 '08
Pros: Sicko is entertaining and educational. It will get you thinking and talking about health care.
Cons: Moore's participatory style is not for everyone.
Sicko is an entertaining and maddening look at how dysfunctional our health care system has become. Michael Moore, once again, uses his own style to make a documentary that people will actually want to watch (not an easy feat in America). Because this is a documentary, I did not expect him to propose any ways to change the system, he's documenting the inadequacies. I have met people from all over the political spectrum who walked out of this film steaming mad.. not at Moore, but at the system that is letting us down. The US spends more money on health care, and yet has 47+ million uninsured citizens, and those with coverage are often underinsured, going without proper care, or going into bankruptcy to cover the cost of care. Moore participatory documentary style is not for everyone, if you sit down to watch Sicko expecting a straight documentary. When people in the most advanced country in the world have to hold bake sales and car washes to help pay for cancer treatments, then I'm grateful for films like Sicko to get people talking about it.

Bang For The Buck
Biased and Shallow
by rupanster,Jun 30 '07
Pros: I can really not find any positive in this.
Cons: It is a one sided highly opinionated unresearched portrayal of what ails US healthcare.
In Sicko Moore attempts to investigate the problems with our health care system and compares it with systems in other countries.

Moore does an injustice in trying to portray a government based system as the best solution to all problems. It is obvious from his liberal bias. One should ask the questions why are the medicare and the social security systems broke. It is unfortunate that with all the power and influence that Moore exerts over the audience, he is not able to properly analyze issues that will challenge his liberal bias.

If private insurance companies kept books the way Medicare and Social security accounts are maintained, it would be considered criminal. And Moore wants the same people who run these broke systems.
