Pros: waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, freezeproof, compact, good photos, adequate video, software, many modes, Bright Capture Cons: rechargable ion battery, scrolling through too many modes, somewhat long shutter time, scratches easily
I’ve had this camera for almost a year. My husband broke my old one before Easter and I knew I needed a new one before that photo op. How he broke it, I do not know. I think he sat on it and the lens cracked because when you turn it on, there was a weird ...
Pros: Waterproof, Shockproof, Durable, Good Warranty Cons: Poor image quality, unintuitive user interface, complicated menus
This is marketed as a rough and tough go-anywhere 7.1 mp compact digital camera. Compact and rough it is, but it lacks the picture quality that I have come to expect from Olympus, more on that later! The Packaging Olympus, like many ...
Pros: Ultra-compact 7.1MP, waterproof, shockproof, continuous drive, 2.5" LCD screen, in-camera editing Cons: Recorded sound after submerging camera in water is muffled until water is blown from microphone
When I first discovered that Olympus made a MilSpec drop-proof (from 5 ft) camera, I immediately thought about a member of my family, who has destroyed a few cameras by 'drop-testing' them. The perfect present!!!! So I purchased one from Olympus' ...
My aging Sony needed a replacement. I had many accessories, batteries, waterproof housing, etc. and hated the thought of losing all those items because I wanted a new camera. My needs were simple. Find a Point and Shoot camera that is tough enough ...
Pros: Water/shock/freeze/crush proof is awesome! Great fun at bars. Cons: Heavy. Image details on preview. Slide show music.
I bought my 770SW about six months ago and I've taken it everywhere I go and dropped it, submerged it, and froze it in one or more of those places. My first outing with the cam was going snorkeling outside my hotel in the Caymans. I walked right out to ...
Pros: VERY durable. All weather compatible. Completely submersible. Flexible picture options. Cons: Video quality is very poor. Proprietary USB cable. Proprietary battery. External charger.
A good all around camera. This camera is very portable, very rugged and all weather compatible. It is completely submersible and plays fairly well with sand, dirt, dust--great for days at the beach/pool/water park. Picture quality is decent, but not ...
Pros: Fabulous photos, exciting video, quality craftsmanship, durable, good sound, easy handling, great preview screen Cons: terrible strap for underwater use, short battery life, writes some kind of funky AVI file
In a nutshell: Love the camera, hate the strap, am not crazy about the battery life, ADOBE PREMIERE PRO won't read the AVI file it writes, so you have to re-write all your AVIs before editing, or use something like ROXIO CREATOR or WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER. ...
Pros: Like its compactness Cons: Very disappointed by this failure of advertised capability.
On my second trip to take underwater photos, my 770 SW failed on me. When I came back and opened the battery compartment - water came out. It's still under manufacturer's warranty, so I'm hoping they'll fix it. Also the picture card was destroyed so I lost any pictures up to this point. This was on a snorkeling trip to the Florida Keys, so I was nowhere near the limit of 30 feet.
I bought this camera expressly for using it to take pictures underwater, so I'm very disappointed by its failure. Another thing that's awkward about the product is the lens opening is in the upper left corner of the box and I can't tell how many pictures I have with part of my finger obstructing the subject. You have to pay particular attention to the way you are holding it. I'm very interested to hear other people's experiences with it.
Buy if for the right reasons by joncrescent,Sep 11 '07
Pros: Water and Shock Proof Cons: Clunky user interface; slow/picky image processor that would not acquire good consistent shots.
I bought this TOUGH camera primarily for its shock and waterproof features, because my son broke a brand new Canon IXUS within a week due to poor handling.
The biggest issue for me regarding the 770 is the clunky user interface. Forget about a quick switch from camera-to-video mode. The Olympus takes good pictures but it is far from idiot-proof as our low-end Canon SD100.
We often travel with both cameras and I find myself fumbling through the 770's menus to find the right setting or mode to get take the perfect picture. On the other hand, during those precious moments, my wife had already taken a great shots within seconds of powering on the SD100.
Shutter Lag? The image processor on the 770 also seems picky before capturing the shot. As a result, the 770 is less consistent with producing high quality pictures, on average, than the idiot-proof SD100.
Nevertheless, I bought this camera for the right reasons and would recommend it to those who needs a tough camera. Don't buy this if you want consistent high quality pictures.
I got it with two batteries and two memory chips, and we have not other issues.
Pros: SOLID! underwater video. Great everyday use. Small enough. Freeze proof. Shock proof. Cons: In play mode, pic info always pops up. No bulb mode.
I keep telling everyone this is the greatest camera ever. I have had it since July and have used it in ALL KINDS of conditions- underwater, in the snow, tide pools, my pool, everywhere! I edited my underwater snorkeling vid shot on this camera. MOST EXCELLENT! I suggest buying a silicon skin and following the suggested care instructions!
Pros: water proof, shock proof, freeze proof, crush proof. 28 shooting modes. Cons: battery life is not bad, but it isn't great either.
awesome camera. it does everything you would expect a digital camera to do and more. The shooting modes really do optimize shots in almost any condition for a user that is not a photo guru. Makes for a great point and shoot camera. Action shots are simple with the either of the two sequential shooting modes.
Pros: Advanced, Water proof, crush proof, shooting modes, Software, Movies, good size screen Cons: Finger prints easily, Digital image stabilization is limited
this is probably the most advanced and versatile camera i have ever bought. I paid only $240 for this camera at Circuit City on an online special during the beginning of December. It takes a while to figure out what each button does and what all the shooting modes are and how to use it. The Image stabilizer is so, so. I would definitely recommend this camera to a friend, if they are around water allot, or are just clumsy people. It's also crush proof up to 220 pounds/foot. Its shock proof up to five feet, and waterproof up 33 feet without underwater housing. It also is freeze proof down 14 degrees fahrenheit so its good for skiing, or snowboarding. It also is 7.1 megapixels which is good. The digital image stabilization only works good when using the portrait shooting mode with flash.
Terrific camera for foodies by michelhays,Jul 14 '08
Pros: Food Porn without effort Cons: More features than I use
We purchased this camera prior to a Florida vacation, primarily for it's underwater features and durability. It performed beautifully in this instance - however, as a budding food blogger, I have come to love the camera's macro features and food settings. Not only does it take beautiful food porn shots almost effortlessly, due to the waterproof feature, it wipes or washes off if splashed with food or drink. It is also small enough to stick in a pocket or purse and have with you at all times, so you don't miss those candid moments you would with a larger camera. I am not a "natural" photographer, but I love this camera.
If it was a woman I'd marry it by richiekins,Oct 04 '07
Pros: Sexy small can use underwater Cons: Doesn't make you coffee in the morning
I love this camera to bits. I got the blue version which looks sexy and took it on holiday and could carry it everywhere.
I agree with the previous reviewer that you should buy it for the right reasons. Something to chuck in a bag or pocket(great size), and to point and click is great.
Tried it in a pool and have seen photos from someone who dived 10 meters and the shots were excellent.
Zoom not that great and would like to know how much it will cost to replace the seals as they have to be replaced each year.
I bought it in Sydney Airport and got a further discount through a bit of haggling.
