Eiderdown Comforter - King
by aikolinens,Apr 21 '07
Pros: Genuine eider down is soft, light, and warm
Cons: Quite expensive, but worth it if you can afford it.
Eiderdown comforters are the creme de la creme of down duvets. Yes, we know eiderdown comforters are not inexpensive, but for those individuals who want the best, this is it.

Eider down is collected from the nests of the eider duck without disturbing the birds. The individual eiderdown plumule has tiny hooks so that each cluster holds on to the next, which prevents the down from shifting. These hooks have microfilaments that trap the tiniest pockets of air

Insulation comes not from the eiderdown, but from the air which is trapped in the pockets. The air in eider down is warmed by the sleeper and retains warmth better than any other kind of down. It insulates at approximately 850-900 fill power and weighs almost nothing!

We suggest that you purchase an eiderdown comforter from a reliable source (to make sure you are getting the genuine article). Christian Fischbacher of Switzerland makes a 99.9% eiderdown comforter with a silk, down-proof cover. It can be purchased in Miami, Florida or online at http://www.italianfinelinens.com
