Pros: Distinctive character among car-based SUVs, styling, steering, efficient packaging Cons: Feels tippier than shorter competitors, no longer the quickest, smallish front seats The Bottom Line: The least car-like of compact car-based SUVs, and I wouldn't want it any other way. What you see is what you get.
Others entered the car-based SUV earlier, but Ford made the biggest splash when it introduced the Escape in the 2001 model year. The Escape seemed to have it all: the appearance of a real SUV, a V6 to give it the grunt of a real SUV, a spacious interior, ...

Pros: Quieter , Zippy , Better Looking. Cons: Teeny gas tank. wacky stereo controls. Not for heavy offroad use. The Bottom Line: Definitely worth a look for min-SUV seekers. probably not #1 in any single attribute , but a good all-round solid vehicle.
The Top Line Ive been driving a 2001 Escape for the last couple of years and I love it. Of course, there are a few things about the vehicle that can drive you crazy more later. Last year I rented a 2003 model and noticed a lot ...

Pros: Fun to drive, great handling, roomy interior, tows well, excellent 4x4 system, remote-starter Cons: Too much road noise, uncomfortable headrests, fuel economy could be better, color options on limited The Bottom Line: I would lease this vehicle again in a heartbeat and definitely plan to buy it off lease. It is trouble-free, fun to drive, and offers outstanding value.
In 1994 I bought a new Explorer and loved it so much I hated to give it up. Even though it was almost 11 years old I still liked it at least as much as anything new plus it was paid for. Enter an awesome lease deal on a 2005 Escape, and it was finally ...

Pros: Nice pep, 6 disc changer, looks good. Cons: Bad highway driver, uncomfortable seats, illogical ergonomics. The Bottom Line: As a city car for daily commuting, it might work. For anything else, it's overpriced and under-contented.
Ah, the joys of company cars. Currently in a 2004 Altima that I'm loving, the time is coming where I'll be able to pick a new car for work. The contenders? The aforementioned Altima S-Extra (this time a 2005), the Ford Five Hundred SE, the Ford Escape ...

Pros: Gas mileage, nimble driving, in-dash navigation system, storage Cons: Blind spots, storage in center console, cheap cluster gauge The Bottom Line: Absolutely buy this car if you want a combination of great gas mileage and SUV capability and size. This car is fantastic!
My first impression of this car was that it was so CUTE!!! When I told my husband this, he was not amused :) While on deployment, he ordered this car, sight unseen, from the Overseas Military Sales Corporation. He chose the Escape Hybrid because it ...

Pros: Electric-only cruising (stealth mode)! Excellent SUV mileage. Good performance/acceleration. Unique vehicle (for now). Cons: Price. No sunroof option. ICE has to run when on defrost due to A/C compressor. The Bottom Line: Recommended based on 4-month/6,000 km driving experience to date. Excellent performance and mileage for an SUV; stealth (electric-only) mode is wonderful and meets/exceeds Ford's advertised performance.
We looked at the Civic & Prius hybrids prior to the Ford Escape Hybrid (FEH) arriving and decided to wait. Finally got the chance to place our order at the start of July 2004 at Coastal Ford in Vancouver, B.C. -- selected an AWD in Titanium Green with ...

Pros: Agile handling, smooth ride, great V6, easy entry/exit, lots of room, trip computer, sound system Cons: Smallish fuel tank, no manual transmission option with the V6 (STILL), Limited's limited color selection The Bottom Line: The Escape's combination of comfort, handling, utility, and substantial feel still make it the top choice in the small SUV category.
My 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer's lease was going to be up soon, and my Ford dealer was after me to trade it in early. With gas prices soaring in June of 2004, I thought it would be a good time to look around at other SUVs and SUV-type vehicles. I ...

Pros: Looks better than 2004, feels solid/safe, decent gas mileage. Cons: Gauge cluster ugly, stereo controls confusing, ultra-cheap floor mats, scary fuel gauge. The Bottom Line: We thought all SUVs were evil until we met the Escape, now we know that some SUVs are of a good useful size without having to be environmental nightmares.
We purchased our XLT Escape at Galpin Ford in Los Angeles through a friend at the dealer and got the car for $200 over dealer cost + 3.9% financing. We didn't have to do the wheeling and dealing either just said hi and he showed us the computer monitor ...

Pros: Handles nicely. Reasonable gas mileage with enough zip to get you on the highway safely. Cons: Cloth seats stain instantly. Lack of easy to see exterior color choices. The Bottom Line: It will be a good fit for some - maybe too small for some. Avoid the cloth seats!
I traded in my 2000 Ford Ranger V-6 manual transmission for a new 2005 Ford Escape 4 cylinder automatic. (Just so you have an idea of where I'm coming from.) My biggest concern was that the Escape would not be zippy enough, especially being an ...

Pros: Clean line styling, nice ride, big SUV feel in a nimble package. Cons: Small gas tank, marginal gas mileage. The Bottom Line: Test drive everything in this class that youll consider then go drive an Escape. I think youll wind up picking one just like I did.
I first drove the Ford Escape when my company gave me a 6-Cyl XLS Popular version in the Spring of 2003. When I changed jobs and handed back the keys, I swore that when I was looking for another vehicle I would consider the Escape. Funny how things ...

Pros: styling, ride Cons: interior quality, gas mileage The Bottom Line: Good SUV that seems a bit over-priced for what you get.
The 2005 Ford Escape is a nice SUV. The problem is that these Escapes are beginning to look dated, and the revisions Ford made to them aren't enough to compete with the competition such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav4, Kia Sportage, and so on. The styling ...

Pros: Looks sharp, amazingly zippy, roomy, great stereo, sporty looks, comfortable seats, storage space, handles great Cons: Costs 28.00-40.00 to fill up during July to September 2005 The Bottom Line: Best Buy for the money. Not too big and not to small. Sharp but practical. Look forward to driving it!
I am not as skilled as some people as it pertains to general auto knowledge, but I believe I have some important things to note when shopping for your next SUV if you are considering the Escape. As a single woman I always drove a Mustang GT. (Five of ...

Pros: All this plastic for Over 17K!! Cons: mentioned above The Bottom Line: Don't buy it. The questionable transmission is reason enough to stay away.
I have a 2005 Escape XLS with a 4 cyl with about 2000 miles on it. I am not pleased with the over quality of this SUV. The entire dash is plastic, thin plastic. The shifter is made of plastic and the silver back is plastic and it's hollow. I tapped on ...

Pros: Great looking car. I like the way it drives. Cons: Major fuel tank problems, Ford will not do anything to fix the problem. BEWARE!!! The Bottom Line: Check the fuel tank situation BEFORE you buy the vehicle.Do not count on FORD's factory warranty
I bought a used 2005 Ford Escape XLT and it still has the full Ford factory warranty. After the purchase I noticed my 2005 Escape XLT has serious fuel tank problem. I can only fuel up my car 50cent at a time because the sensors in the gas tank will ...

Pros: V6 is peppy. Roomy interior. Great visibility! Cons: Factory Tires, Contitrac are junk. I put BFGoodrich Long Trail Radials on mine last fall.
I was looking for a vehicle with ground clearence for northern Wisconsin winters. My Escape has it. Only Front wheel drive. Doesn't have a problem in the snow. Now have 76,000 miles on it. Runs and looks great.
