Pros: The space, the diesel engine, and the bells and whistles are wonderful. Cons: So far, nothing. It's an adjustment to drive something so large but awesome seeing everything! The Bottom Line: Best for big families who need the room and people who like the idea of making and using biodiesel. Better than a minivan!
We had our fourth child over the summer and needed a second vehicle that would seat at least seven comfortably with two Britax carseats now in the car. Our other car is a 2007 Volvo XC90, which is feels like a sports car now by comparison and is ...

Pros: Love the seating capacity and the fact I can haul plywood in my SUV. Cons: Brake Rotors are a constant problem.
Great seating capacity - Extremely poor design to driver usability. Can NOT easily adjust heaters in the seat. Constant and ON-GOING Brake problems. Front brake rotors MUST be turned every 1500 to 2000 miles. Brakes will shake you off the road (Turning rotors is about $350 to $400 a whack) Every other Excursion 2003 owner I have met has had this problem - ask someone at the gas station next time you see them.

Pros: Is reliable and relatively trouble free. Cons: Those who are unknowledgeable which charge people to supposedly fix vehicles.
I am an Excursion owner as well as a career ASE master Technician (20 yrs & 23 certs) These vehicles do not have a braking problem WHEN PROPER brake materials and common sense repairs are made. For those of you who are complaining of poor brake design, you should use only highest quality pads and rotors for a massive vehicle such as this. Wagner and Bendix both make fleet/ severe duty which will resist warpage, wear, and pulsation provided the vehicle is being driven sensibly and not being overloaded or abused. The turning of rotors on a vehicle of this size is a bad idea and no reputable and knowledgeable techinicain would ever do so as turning equates to thinning which decreases heat dissipation and excelerates warping. In short, spend the $ for top of the line brakes, operate the vehicle in a sensible manner (its big, but its NOT a semi or race car) and you'll almost certainly NOT have brake issues.
